Old Chinese Photographs 中国老照片

Yes, yes, I know. This is quickly becoming a photo site link farm. But, hey – this one is worth it. I was going to hold off, but a recent post convinced me that I needed to put it up here.

The author of Old Chinese photos has a very eclectic taste。 There’s everything from postcards to movie posters, to North Korean propaganda images. It might not be the best place to go if you are looking for something specific, but it makes for a wonderful browse.

A recent double sized post of photographs from Victor Segalen (维克多·谢阁兰), a French man most well-known for his poetry. He also was a doctor who served in the army in China and luckily for us, took a heap of pictures circa 1914. Interestingly enough, some of his poetry is said to be rather Poundian. Here’s one of a temple arch in Shanxi:
